    The position oversees marketing and communications, including media relations, electronic communication, brand management, advocacy messaging, and strategic marketing efforts. Responsible for content management, message continuity, coordinated design and cost effective and timely production of informational and marketing materials including the Museum’s website. Also responsible for oversight and direction of outsourced communications projects and activities.

    The successful candidate will have a Master's Degree or professional certification and 5-7 years of experience in communications and/or publishing; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.

    Additional attributes include:

    • Knowledge of the broader museum community
    • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of strategic marketing and communications plans and activities
    • Superior writing and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and negotiate
    • Thorough understanding of branding principles and tactics through all forms of media (print, electronic, social, etc)
    • Proven leadership, management, and supervisory skills

    The League seeks fundraiser to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation and corporate donors for major gifts to support current operations and our capital campaign.  Goal is to obtain large gifts of five figures and above.  Efforts will include proposal writing, prospect research, and significant time out of the office on donor visits.  Reports to Chief Development Officer.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • P&L responsibility for major gift fundraising with foundation and corporate donors. Will raise funds for current operations and capital campaign. P&L responsibility and all revenue streams of major gift fundraising shared with CDO.
    • Partner with CDO on system of identifying, cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting foundation and corporate donors. Significant time to be spent on phone and in-person meetings.
    • Develop proposals for foundations. Manage full system of foundation relationships, research, prospecting, outreach and reporting.
    • Manage corporate fundraising and stewardship. Focus should also include gifts in kind and pro bono services, as well as online, in-shelter, and newsletter stewardship of corporate donors.
    • Develop prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation tracking and reporting system for all major gift activities.
    • Participate in capital campaign activities and meetings.
    • Perform some prospect research and some capital campaign management duties.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of five years professional experience in nonprofit development with experience in successfully soliciting major gifts.
    • Candidates must have proven track record of obtaining major gifts of five figures and above.
    • Must have significant experience in successfully obtaining major gifts from foundations and corporate donors, with demonstrated ability to write effective proposals.
    • Prior experience in following areas are helpful: capital campaign, prospect research, and animal sheltering/advocacy.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including speaking, writing, and spelling.
    • Bachelor’s degree.
      Occasional evenings and weekends necessary. Some travel may be required. Must have reliable transportation. Must be team member ready to pitch in when needed.

    DC  company with about 30 employees seeking an Assistant Controller. Ideal candidates should be a CPA with a combination of CPA firm and non-profit/association background and with about 10 years or more of experience. Client may consider professionals who are not a CPA/active CPA  depending on one’s experience, skills and educational background (to include at a minimum an undergraduate degree/combination graduate degree with an Accounting focus). Client may also consider a professional who has solid tax and accounting background/experience working in for profit and non-profit environments including recent experience preparing 990’s. Professional must have a great attention to details!

    Preferred software skills:  Peachtree/Peachtree for Nonprofits and if have tax software experience, especially ProSystem fx a huge plus

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Review monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger
    • Serve as liaison to external auditors
    • Prepare all tax returns including 990’s, sales and use tax, DC personal property tax and DC
    • Unclaimed Property Returns
    • Assist in preparation of annual charitable contribution letters
    • Assist in preparing and reviewing annual Forms 1099
    • Review of monthly staff hours invoicing to nonprofits
    • Accumulation of quarterly accounting staff hours for invoicing to nonprofits
    • Prepare annual lobbying percentage calculations
    • Review office reimbursement invoices
    • Renew annual Directors and Officers insurance policies
    • Approve monthly medical insurance invoices for payment
    • Prepare payroll information to call outside service to process payroll
    • Administer retirement plans
    • Provide support for outside state charitable solicitation registrations/renewals
    • Perform accounting and tax research as required
    • Reconcile monthly petty cash
    • This position may also handle some/all HR related duties including onboarding new staff, etc. which will be determined depending on professional's background and skills and other duties may be assigned on an as needed basis – as of now, this is not a supervisory position per se/collaborative environment

    Note: there is a Controller on staff and two other professionals who perform some of the other accounting related duties.
